2025 S.S. Meteor Project Canceled

Phil Kerber | Published on 4/16/2025
Greetings Friends of the S.S. Meteor,

We are sorry to report this, but the S.S. Meteor Project is now canceled.

We have just heard that sometime over the winter.  The expansion deck developed a huge one to two inch wide crack all the way across the ship to the top of the hull all the way across from both the port and starboard sides.

The city of Superior and the Surveyor's at both the Coast Guard and AMI Engineering are labeling it as a possible danger for anyone to enter the ship, even City personnel.  The engineers are still deciding what course of action is require to not only repair the ship but to prevent it from happening again.

Either way it would present a liability for the City of Superior if the public is allowed to enter.  No one will be able to gain access the ship until the crack and other repairs are completed.  Then determine if it is safe for the public to enter the ship once again.  The seasonal tour will also be shut down until it  safe to enter.

Please check back with us on occasion to see if the S.S. Meteor Preservation Project Work Weekend Event has been rescheduled for a later date this season or, next year in April again.

Please keep watch on the GLSPS Website for any further developments.  You can also contact me anytime if you would like details of the canceled project.

Thank you for your understanding.
